starting out at 5 in the morning we are at 76 and that's a launching pad for upper 90s today for that reason they have heat advisory excessive heat warnings north and east of town. we are at 92 degrees with the lunchtime hour on the way to 98 degrees. that the two degree guarantee but it could be a gusty late day shower or thunderstorm and that threat would linger into 8. good news for this forecast is not anticipating weather problems going into the festivities for tonight for the fireworks. that's going to be good news but 100 degree weather. we will talk about that coming up in a bit. bge is hard at work this morning trying to repair power to more than 100,000 people still in the dark. >> abc2 news linda so is down at the staging area at bwi airport with an update on how the efforts are going. linda. >> reporter: good morning, guys. we are now down to about 108,000 customers who are without power about 80% had been restored. this is one of two command sites. this is the one at bwi where

crews report for their day of work and in a few minutes the crews working today will come out here to start another 12 to 16 hour shift. now we are told crews are making good progress. they are working those long shifts still clearing trees and repairing power lines and over the next two days, bge says they will put a good dent in the number of people who are still without power. but as they get into the weekend, what you will notice is those numbers will seem to slow down because that's when they will start the home to home operations. so the numbers won't go down as quickly as they are right now. now the big variable right now is storms that we could get to bge they are keeping a close eye on that. two days ago when we had small storms go in through the area, it knocked out power to 15,000 customers. so there's no saying what another storm could do tonight. starting today bge will give a time estimate on a limited basis if you are still without power. that's if they are on that work

site. they are confident the problem will be fixed today. they will begin to let people know when their power should be restored. the variable right now is storms that could happen later tonight. bge says they are wore quid if that happens because it could --worried if that happens because it could knock people back out. today is the 4th of july holiday and doesn't mean the work stops for them. they will report to work for another day of work in now minutes. live in linthicum, linda so, abc2 news. who can -- we can blame the friday storms on one more death. a contractor died after falling from a tree in garrett county. the contractor was removinglimbs from a storm damaged tree in oakland when he fell about 40 feet. the storm related death totals was 4. new this morning, gaithersburg family is arguing they need power back on more than others. it's a matter they say of life and death for the 4-year-old boy. you see charley was born with a

rare brain disorder but ever since the power went out, he has been having dozens of seizures every day. >> it could be life-threatening even so with him lately. over the past couple month we have had respiratory issues. >> they have a generator however it is not strong enough to power the air conditioning. april says that she has called not looking for special treatment but actually to find out when the power will be back on. so far, they have gotten no answer. another teen is thanking his lucky stars after a potentially life-threatening situation. >> he hate power line and survived to tell the story. sherrie johnson is here with more on what happened. sherrie. >> reporter: well, during the storm cleanup, there are a lot of downed trees and he stumbled on a downed power line and lived to tell about it. he could have been killed in a freak accident. he was walking in the dark with friends in the field when i hit

a fully active power pole and wires strung waist high like a fence across the field. he was knocked unconscious and spent two nights at the burn center at bayview with severe third-degree burns on his thigh and his feet where the surging electricity left his body. >>i got knocked backwards. my hat flew off my head and from that point they said i was unconscious for 10 to 20 seconds. >> the killer was the deer picture where you see the power lines down with two dead deer and my son was in the middle. that's kind of a telling picture. >> reporter: bge says they repaired the line and power pole. dylan is on bed rest for the next few weeks. sherrie johnson. 6 minutes after 5. national symphony orchestra came to a stop on tuesday. >> what mother nature had to do with that that sent the crew into intermission. they were getting ready for the july 4th event. >> the city is preparing for a flood of people to celebrate

now "good morning maryland." tonight is the big night for the fireworks display at the inner harbor. after last year's outbreak of violence you may remember baltimore city police say they do have a now plan in place to keep the peace. a perimeter fence a bike racks will circle inner harbor to control the crowds there. police will be watching visitors with cameras as well as helicopters. >> we wish that people were adult and would conduct themselves the right way that when -- but when they don't we will do our jobs. >> police expect more than 200,000 people to flood the inner harbor for the fireworks show. it's ten times the size a new year eve crowd. >> people brought chairs and tarps and anything to watch the 4th of july parade.

>> reporter: leave the air on but shut the water off. doing so will be beneficial to your toilets refrigerator and dishwasher and washing machine. >> washing machines are a huge issue. the hoses if one burst, in just a matter of an hour you can have a house full of water and we have had that happen many timesunfortunately. and the the claims are large. >> reporter: you may be be a rush to get vacation going there, are a few other things you should take the time to do. >> leave lights on in the house and leave the light on in the front porch. >> reporter: it's best to put a few lights on a timer a little noise will make people think someone is home and don't forget to unplug electric cat appliance like -- electrical appliances to protect them from any storms. if you are gone more than a week have the post office stop mail or have family and friends peck it up. experts suggest you tell a neighbor when you are going out of town.
